Welcome to SANRA 2024

“Revitalizing Neuro-Rehab: Renewed strategies for Progress and Innovation – Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll in Neuro-Rehab”.

With local and international experts covering a broad range of topics in neurorehabilitation, this year’s conference promises to be an exciting and informative one. We have so much on offer this year that we have included a half-day pre-conference workshop. We are bringing you cutting edge research and developing trends from around the globe.

SANRA has had both a challenging and an exciting 6 years since our last conference in 2018. Along with the rest of the world, we faced numerous obstacles during the COVID pandemic. However, Karyn Casey, on behalf of SANRA, submitted a successful bid to host the 15th World Congress for Neurorehabilitation in 2028 in Cape Town. This was our third attempt to win the bid and work is already underway to ensure that this event is a success.

During 2022 we put together a series of webinars with the aim of regaining our presence within the neurorehabilitation community after our low profile during the peaks of COVID. Some of our favourite previous conference speakers assisted us by presenting these webinars, in addition to local professionals.

The SANRA committee is a dedicated and steadfast group of professionals, all passionate about the field of neurorehabilitation, who give freely of their time to do whatever is needed, despite their other personal and professional obligations. In order to plan a successful conference after a brief hiatus, we commissioned some prior committee members to rejoin in order to contribute institutional knowledge and experience (including myself!). The current committee comprises myself; Karyn Casey; Megan Barnes and Cindy Kaschula.

We hope that the upcoming conference will create opportunities to network, learn and socialize with colleagues and like-minded professionals. Our aim is for the content to expand our awareness and understanding of both conventional and less conventional approaches to treatment and therapy. What makes SANRA conferences unique is the truly interdisciplinary opportunity for every professional working within the field of neurorehabilitation to attend the same talks and workshops. I always feel refreshed and inspired after SANRA, filled with new therapy ideas and motivation to continue modernizing and improving the services I have to offer. I hope that this year’s programme will have you feeling the same way.
